Welcome to Reids Nursery

A family-owned business, Reid's Nursery puts the customer first. We love all aspects of gardening and enjoy helping people get the most out of their yards and gardens.

The summer heat is here but that doesn't mean you can't continue to enjoy your yard and garden. Work outdoors in the cooler morning or evening hours and always have some water handy. Consider putting in some plants that bloom in the summer such as esperanza, Texas Star Hibiscus, plumbago, salvias or lantanas.

To keep the vegetable garden going, we recommend Medina's Hasta Gro, along with Garden-ville's greensand, Nature's Guide lava sand and Maxicrop's seaweed, to provide the many nutrients needed for a bountiful harvest. For a top tomato and pepper crop, we have Nature's Guide Tomato and Pepper food as well as Carl Pool soft rock phosphate and bone meal.

For those large gardening projects, we carry 3.8 cubic ft. bags of Ferti-lome sphagnum peat moss, 4.4 cubic ft. bags of perlite and 40 pound bags of Nature's Guide Expanded Shale, along with smaller bags of perlite and vermiculite. We also have Garden-ville potting soil in one cubic foot bags.

With summer weather come some garden pests like fire ants, beetles and slugs. We have Nature's Guide Fire Ant killer, safe for use in an organic garden, as well as Green Light BT and Lawn and Garden Spray concentrate with Spinosad. We also carry Medina Orange Oil that can be used in a variety of ways to fight fire ants and other insects. Nature's Guide Mosquito Repellent ready-to-spray will keep your backyard free of mosquitoes, chiggers, gnats and other annoying flying insects for up to three weeks. It contains citronella and is kid, pet and planet friendly.

We carry herbs, great low-maintenance natives such as blackfoot daisy, four-nerve daisy, Texas Betony, Mexican Honeysuckle, American Beauty berry, different salvias and many more. In addition, we have beautiful, tough and long blooming roses such as Belinda's Dream, Mrs. Pierre Dupont, Old Blush, as well as Katy Road Pink, Souvenir de la Malmaison, Iceberg and more.

We have a large variety of trees that not only do well in this area but also require less water, such as burr oaks, desert willows, Possumhaws, Anacacho orchid trees, Retamas, vitex trees, goldenball lead trees and more.

Of course, we always carry soil testing information packets, heirloom seeds from Baker Creek, gardening books, plant and wildlife guides, garden art, tiled pots and hummingbird feeders and cleaning brushes.

At Reid's Nursery, we use organic products and practices and recycle, compost and collect rainwater. We grow and maintain our plants in environmentally responsible ways.

For family fun this summer, come visit the San Marcos Farmers Market, held on the square every Saturday through July, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. It offers local produce, plants, crafts, food, drinks, live music and more.
